I’ll let the Terrence issue drop for now. I don’t want to kill it beyond all
humor!
First, I’ll talk to you people, since you were nice enough to review! Read the comments to everyone, not just to you if you reviewed. You’ll learn a lot!
Alyssa: You don’t like Mokuba’s dub voice? I’ve never seen the sub, so I have no basis for comparison, but I don’t think it’s so bad.
Emerald Phoenix524: I’ve heard conflicting rumors about the Battle City episodes. But since the ratings are so great, they have to continue the series. It’d be stupid not to. So I assume they’re going to show the Battle City episodes. But I expect them to be quite mangled. And no, Malik looks nothing like a Terrence. I don’t know what they were thinking…
Ieyre: Yep, Ted Lewis does the voice for Yugi. Same guy who does Tracey and Giovanni on Pokemon. And Mai does have the same voice as Cassidy from Pokemon, but I’m not sure who that is. Megan someone, maybe?
Saki: Yep, Mokuba and Ash both have their voices done by Veronica Taylor.
Yami Mariko: Yeah, from what I hear, in Egypt Yami was rather cruel, maybe even bloodthirsty. He wanted to take over the world. I hear that much later in the series, he gets his memories back and tries that again. And Yugi has to duel him for the fate of the world or something like that. That made me sad.
Lilmissgoten: Heh heh… I really don’t know why the dubbers are as stupid as they are. Maybe some day I’ll learn enough Japanese to become a translator, and when the dubbers hire me, I’ll make sure they get it straight! Also, I did hear that Ryou died because of something Yami Bakura did. I don’t know what happened after that, but somehow Ryou came back to life. Yay! I also heard something similar about Malik. See, his yami didn’t just take over his body, he kicked Malik out of it. And apparently, he’s living in yami Bakura’s soul room or something now. Or maybe they destroyed Malik’s body to kill his yami, and so that’s why malik had to stay in Yami Bakura’s soul room. Something weird like that.
Aibou: I realize that 4Kids didn’t make any official statement. I’m just saying what I heard. And I’ve seen it in a LOT of places, not just one stupid little fan site. I agree that you probably have to be chosen to have a second soul in your body, or maybe in your Sennen item. But what makes you worthy, if it’s something to do with you, not the item?
Star: I wasn’t making fin of Honda’s hair! I think it’s pretty cool! And it looks good on him!
The 7th Toraphim: Ack, poor Isis! I shudder to think what they’ll do to her! Yep. Eric Stuart does Kaiba’s voice. You say Ted Lewis does Ryou, Bakura, Keith, and Croquet’s voices? And another guy does Yugi’s? I’m confused. I’m not sure about this… Hmm. Oh well. And yes, Gourry’s dubbed voice is really wrong. But it’s nothing compared to Xellos’s!! Good lord, that horrible slimy voice coming out of my cute Xellos’s mouth makes me physically ill! It’s so wrong! It goes against his whole image and character!!
Insanity in a Jar: Yeah, I’ll yell at the dubbers and tell them it’s Malik every time they say Terrence too! Stupid fools…
Talia Ali: Yes, Malik and Isis are from Egypt. They might actually keep that fact, since it has something to do with the plot. Unlike what they did to poor Bakura. He’s NOT from England. He transferred from another school, not another country.
Angel walking in the rain: I’m not sure how much good writing letters would do. When they used to show Escaflowne on FOX Kids, and then took it off the air, I wrote a very angry but polite letter to them. A month later I got a postcard that said “Sorry, Escaflowne is not part of our lineup. But we care how you feel.” Right. I’m sure. But now that took Digimon out of their Saturday lineup, they’re dead. So I guess that’ll teach them.
Delara: Seto and Brock do usually sound different. But sometimes when Seto raises his voice, the actor slips a bit and you can hear Brock. I hear that Eric Stuart’s real voice sounds like Brock’s and Gourry’s, rather than the much nicer-sounding James, or the cooler Seto. Yeah, they’re completely different people, all of them. But a voice actor can’t always play the same type of character. It’d be pretty dumb if all the “cool scary guys” sounded alike, and so did the “cute gay villains” and the “lover boys” and the “dumb guys”…
Arwen: Hee hee… Glad I’ve caused your mom to think you’re crazy! It’s even better when I’m reading something funny in the middle of a crowded computer lab on campus, and I burst out laughing. The whole room stares at me!
Deja*vu: I think it’s pretty likely that they’ll just edit Malik’s killing sprees out of the Battle City episodes. But the part where Malik controls Jonouchi? That’s a big, dramatic part! Stupid dubbers…
Angelic Revolve: This isn’t the first time they’ve destroyed a perfectly good anime by making it into a kids’ show. Have you ever seen the subtitled version of Cardcaptor Sakura, or read the manga? It’s packed full of great stuff! Like for instance, everyone’s related, and they’re all in love, and there’s bunches of yaoi and yuri references and all that good stuff. But I’m sure we all remember what they did to the dub… How sad!
Onua Wingstar: Yeah, I hate Keith too. I realize there’s some things about him that are potentially likeable, but I don’t like him anyway. How many episodes so we have till Battle City, anyway? They said that the Yugi vs. Pegasus battle would last 5 episodes. And then they have to rescue people and go home and all that… But it couldn’t take TOO long, could it? About the manga, I hear that it’s being released in Shonen Jump magazine. I may have to get a subscription.
Lily22: Yes, you’re right! Yugi wears white sneakers, but when he transforms, Yami has on high navy blue boots that, as you said, connect to his pants. Mystifying…
Yami Krissy: I looked for this last time I watched Yugi transform. When he’s Yugi, he does have a white shirt on. Now I may be wrong, but it looked to me like when he transforms, the shirt just opens so you just see the collar sticking out of his jacket. Also, Mariku is Malik’s Japanese name. It’s pronounced Malik. We can hope for something as good as Marik, but I don’t know…
Thanks everyone for your help with the voice actors! And all those Terrence comments were great. ^_^
Okay, down to business. Let’s talk look-alikes. Especially concerning hair.
Yuugi/Yami: No one can rival their looks. No one. Only one anime guy that I’ve seen even comes close, and that’s Mondo from Mon Colle Knights, which used to be on FOX kids after Digimon. He has long wild black hairwith a big red chunk in the front. His hair shares much of Yuugi’s craziness, but I like Yuugi’s better.
Honda(Tristan): I still think his hair looks like Kemo’s. Other than that, the only one who comes to mind is Indiana Jones, because of all the brown. Only because of his hair, he doesn’t need the hat.
Yami Bakura: His hair reminds me a bit of Pietro’s (Quicksilver’s) from X-Men: Evolution, with the little wingy horizontal parts.
Pegasus: The exceptionally cute (if a bit scary) Pegasus J. Crawford reminds me of Valmont from Jackie Chan Adventures. It’s not just the long silver/gray hair. They dress alike too! But Pegasus wears red while Valmont prefers green. I’m sure you’ve seen this comparison before, but after watching the two of them in close sequence (ignoring the Pokemon stuck in the middle), the similarity’s hard to miss.
Bandit Keith Howard: He needs no look-alike. After all, he (or his clone) is living somewhere in St. Louis, Missouri.
Black/Dark Magician: This is more of a face thing than a hair thing. His exact expression can be found on the face of Vrumugun, the mage/bounty hunter from the first series of Slayers. Thinking back, this similarity is probably what got me into Yu-Gi-Oh in the first place, since at first I didn’t think much of it.
Blue Eyes White Dragon: My best friend Mimi once said it looks like a shark. I have to agree. Maybe that’s why I never liked it much. I LOVE dragons, but this one just doesn’t impress me.
Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress: Aside from having an insanely long name, this thing looks like a big-nosed dog in a dragon suit.
As a general observation, Yu-Gi-Oh dragons aren’t too attractive. Except maybe the Koumori Dragon.
On to other stuff…
Honor/Friendship Rants:
First of all, let me say that I can’t stand Tea. I hear Anzu (her Japanese
version) is cool, but I hate Tea. In my own little Yu-Gi-Oh fantasies, she
doesn’t exist. Why? Well, not just because she lacks the sex appeal that the
others hold for me. It’s those friendship rants. To understand my true feelings
on this subject, go read the fanfic “When Leading Femal Characters get Overly
Annoying” or something like that. The feelings of the other characters towards
Tea sum up my feelings nicely. But to be fair to her fans, Yuugi and his yami
are just as bad. They go on and on about dueling with honor. All that “Our
friendship is strong” and “Duel with honor in your heart” stuff is full of nice
sentiments, but they make me want to gag. I get so sick of it. The heart of the
cards speeches are pretty bad too, but I don’t mind it as much because I believe
in it and it’s not so mushy.
The Heart of the Cards (since we’re on the subject):
Here’s what I take this to mean. If you think of the cards as sentient creatures
and believe in them, they’ll help you and have the right ones be there when you
need them. Likewise, if you treat the cards like dumb pieces of cardboard,
they’ll respond like dumb pieces of cardboard. I try to apply this to
everything, and can often be found talking to inanimate objects when I think no
one’s around. This works with a lot of things, but not usually computers because
they’re stubborn and mean. Other than that, as long as I don’t rely on it too
heavily, my “luck” holds. That’s just me making demands, though. I’m a listener
by nature, so sometimes I really just need to talk to someone for a change. My
friends, used to the role of the speakers, won’t do. So I turn to my toys,
posters, and cards. I talk to my Cardcaptor Sakura poster, and Yue’s eyes look
understanding. I tell the Yu Yu Hakusho boys on my wall scroll about my day, and
they listen (even though they sometimes scoff or laugh at me). I rub my Dark
Magician card so much, trying to get my point across that I’m afraid his
holographicness will flake off. Most people stop believing that their toys and
such are alive by the time they’re 7 or 8, at the latest. I know I’m crazy and
pathetic. But they listen so much better than some people. I believe in them, so
they help me. Like Yuugi’s heart of the cards. Does anyone else do something
like that, or am I alone in my insanity? ^_^
Shorter things that I thought of after the newest episodes!
- The Blue Eyes Toon Dragon looks like a rabid gerbil when it’s trying to escape from Seto’s Shadow Spell.
- Have you noticed how the Dark Magician always gets stuffed under a Magical Hat lately?
- Don’t you wish they’d change that annoying opening song? It’s really quite dumb. That’s why I’m looking foreward to the end of the Duelist Kingdom episodes (though I’ll miss Pegasus!). They’ll have to change the song.
- Now that everyone knows that Pegasus isn’t just doing all this for the fun of it, I hope I see more Pegasus fanfiction. Isn’t he cute? Poor guy… In fact, I’d like to issue a little challenge. Write a Pegasus fic if you can! And he can’t be the bad guy of the fic.
- But I hadn’t realized that Pegasus actually got married to Cecelia (if that’s what they want to call her). I thought she died while they were ingaged. Was I wrong, or are the dubbers being dumb again? Or did I just misinterpret Pegasus’s thoughts?
- There was way too much crying in the second Yuugi vs. Jonouchi episode if you ask me. Just a tad too sentimental. Feelings are good and all, but let’s not get overly melodramatic here.
Well, that’s all at least until the next new episodes. This wasn’t as good as the first one, but I tried! What do you think? Any answers? Any questions of your own? Any comments on my general sanity (or lack thereof)? Review, please!!
